Patricia M. Field

FIELD, Patricia M. age 90, of Cambridge MA and Naples ME, died peacefully on the afternoon of October 27th at her home in Cambridge, where she had lived for 88 years. She was surrounded by family and friends. The cause of death was respiratory failure.

Ms. Field was the daughter of the late William Henry and Dorothy (Moore) Field; she was the sister of the late Annette Field Worden, John Moore Field, Laurence Field and Henry Field. She was Aunt to one nephew and eight nieces: Geoffrey Field Worden of Highlands NC; Judith Worden Nussbaumer of Buffalo NY; Pamela Worden of Pepperell MA; Candace Worden Kasser of Natick MA; Joanne Field Purce and Cynthia Gillis, both of Prescott AZ; Deborah Field McGrath of Grantham NH; Margo Field Rogers of La Jolla CA; Victoria Field Cahill of Wellesley MA. Eighteen great nieces and nephews, eleven great-great nieces and nephews and her devoted caregiver, Delia Lambert, also survive her.

Ms. Field was born in 1919 and attended the Cambridge Preparatory School, located on Chauncy Street in Cambridge, Class of 1936. She graduated from Lesley Teacher’s College after which she ran a private nursery school for a number of years. During the Second World War she served as Air Raid Warden in her North Cambridge neighborhood, while two of her brothers served overseas in the armed forces. In the 50’s and 60’s she translated books and manuscripts into Braille as a volunteer for the Perkins School for the Blind in Boston. She was elected a member of the Cambridge Republican City Committee on which she served for many years. She was appointed by the City of Cambridge Election Commission to work at the polls on Election Day, serving at the former Peabody School, a school she and all of her siblings had attended as children. She was elected Treasurer of her Ward Committee and held that post for many years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday November 8th at the Bigelow Chapel, Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge MA 02138 at 11:00 am, interment to follow.
